How UOW Art Gallery is using Mila-Wall® for their exhibition space
We spoke with the team behind the exhibition “Hills and Wings: A Celebration of Guy Warren and his work” at the University of Wollongong (UOW) in 2021 just before lockdown, about how Mila-wall® helped them create their new exhibition space.
The exhibition was held in the new dedicated gallery space for the UOW Art Collection in the Jillian Broadbent Building. Guy Warren was the Director of the UOW Art Collection for 10 years, and some of the works he chose as well as his own were featured in this exhibit which also celebrated his 100th birthday.
The challenge for the team of working in a large white space with high ceilings was the limited wall space for putting together a large display of work. Art Hanging Systems was able to help with their portable architecture product Mila-wall® which gave them a running wall space for this exhibit.
The UOW gallery used 3.5 metre high walls to create more wall space for their curated show, and it allowed them to section off the space to feature Guy Warren’s work in one half of the room, and the works he chose for the UOW Art Collection during his time as Director in another section of the space.
To be able to have something that is easily moveable and reconfigurable for each exhibition is a more cost-effective way for us to go forward.
Karen Cass, Art Collection Manager, University Of Wollongong.
The advantage of Mila-wall® for this gallery is that the walls can be easily reassembled in different layouts to suit the changing exhibits in the space. The walls can be placed near electrical pits in the floor so that electrical components can be concealed within the walls to allow for installing lighting, speakers, and video displays.
